Tune in to a live broadcast of the Emotional Wisdom Training radio show on Friday, November 15, from 1:00 to 1:50 pm EST on W4CY.com
Lisa Firestone, Ph.D. is Director of Research and Education at The Glendon Association, and shares in the same mission that Emotional Wisdom Training follows: changing lives and saving lives. With a 30 year commitment in gathering information, authoring books, and speaking internationally on couple relations, parenting, and suicide and violence prevention, Dr. Firestone has a lot to share with us.
The balance between our two different sides is delicate and can be easily tipped. However, we don’t need to be the victims of our moods as they tip back and forth between our positive and negative feelings about ourselves. By identifying the critical inner voice and the role it plays in supporting our negative self-image, we can take action against it and significantly change our lives. We can reject attitudes that oppose our best interests and diminish our self-esteem. We can stop self-defeating and self-destructive behavior. We cannot tolerate angry, cynical attitudes toward others that turn us against people.
For people who are concerned about a friend, relative or co-worker who may be at risk for suicide, there is a strong message of hope in the fact that there are now several good, effective treatments available to help suicidal people learn the skills to stay alive. These new discoveries, paired with new methods of outreach, have made me increasingly optimistic about our ability to help save lives. New technologies are even helping in this mission. – Dr. Lisa Firestone
